Returns the GenVM sync status, indicating how far the node's local GenVM state is behind the chain tip.

Method: gen_syncing

Parameters: None

Returns: Object with sync status information

Response Fields:

FieldTypeDescription
syncedBlockstringHex-encoded block number that GenVM has synced to
latestBlockstringHex-encoded latest block number on the chain

Example Request:

{
  "jsonrpc": "2.0",
  "method": "gen_syncing",
  "params": [],
  "id": 1
}

Example Response (Synced):

{
  "jsonrpc": "2.0",
  "result": {
    "syncedBlock": "0x151ec5",
    "latestBlock": "0x151ec5",
    "blocksBehind": 0
  },
  "id": 1
}

Example Response (Behind):

{
  "jsonrpc": "2.0",
  "result": {
    "syncedBlock": "0x151e00",
    "latestBlock": "0x151ec5",
    "blocksBehind": 197
  },
  "id": 1
}

Notes:

  • This endpoint always returns an object (never false like eth_syncing)
  • Use blocksBehind == 0 to determine if the node is fully synced
  • When the node is catching up, gen_call requests without an explicit blockNumber will serve data at the syncedBlock rather than waiting for full sync
